Flight #16 set for October 17

Freedom Honor Flight’s fall flight to Washington DC is scheduled for Saturday, October 17. Veterans from the waiting list who were selected for the flight have been notified.

Flight day plans include visits to the WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Air Force Memorial, Marine Corps Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where the group plans to watch the changing of the guard.

Veterans are selected on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to WWII veterans, then Korean War era veterans.

An orientation for veterans and volunteer guardians assigned to the October flight is set for Sunday, September 27, at the La Crosse American Legion Post 52.

The October flight will be the 16th organized by Freedom Honor Flight, the first Wisconsin hub of the national honor flight network. Freedom Honor Flight serves 22 counties in western Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa. The hub flies out of La Crosse.

The public is encouraged to attend the 6–7 am morning send-off and the 9:30–11 pm welcome home celebration, both held at Colgan Air Hangar #4 at the La Crosse Airfield.
