UWL and Freedom Honor Flight to Host “Homecoming For Heroes”
La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Intercollegiate Athletics Department and its fundraising arm, the L-Club, along with Freedom Honor Flight is set to host “Homecoming For Heroes” Celebration on Saturday, October 27.
The event is a part of this year’s Varsity Homecoming on campus. UWL has teamed with the Freedom Honor Flight for a celebration following UWL’s football game versus UW-Platteville scheduled for 1 p.m. on October 27. The post game event takes place in the Mitchell Hall Fieldhouse from 5 to 9 p.m. featuring live music by Three Bucks and Change, which includes UWL head men’s track & field coach Josh Buchholtz.
Admission is free to the event with donations being accepted. Food and beverages (provided by Pepsi Cola of La Crosse and Pearl Street Brewery) will be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Freedom Honor Flight to fund its efforts of flying veterans to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials that stand in their honor.
Along with the “Homecoming For Heroes” Celebration, UWL Intercollegiate Athletics will induct five new members to its Wall of Fame at a ceremony starting at 7 p.m. in the Mitchell Hall Gymnasium. The public is invited to attend the Wall of Fame induction. This year’s inductees include Josh Chelf (wrestling), Amanda Medendorp (swimming & diving), Angela Muenkel (volleyball), Kristen Nokleby (soccer) and Sally Wenzel (softball).
Tickets for the UWL/UW-Platteville football game, sponsored by Kwik Trip, will be available at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex starting at 11:30 a.m. with kickoff set for 1 p.m.

UWL athletics and Freedom Honor Flight will also host the 8th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast Sunday, November 11 in the Mitchell Hall Fieldhouse. The event is free for all veterans and their families. More information will be announced. UWL will host its Veterans Day Game on Saturday, November 3 as the Eagles host UW-River Falls at 1 p.m.
