Freedom Honor Flight returns with two fall flights

Flight 25 scheduled for September 11

In 2020, Freedom Honor Flight made the difficult decision to suspend flights until it was again possible to fly veterans safely. In July of this year, hubs across the nation received the green light from National Honor Flight (NHF) to resume flights. Freedom Honor Flight was ready and quickly organized two fall flights.

Flight 26—October 9, 2021

The organization is thrilled to return to its mission of honoring veterans by flying them to see the memorials built in their honor. Veterans fly for free, accompanied by guardians who pay their own way. The single-day itinerary includes a welcome in Washington, D.C., and visits typically include the WWII Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and other sites via luxury motorcoaches.

Families and friends can send off and welcome home the veterans at Colgan Air Hangar 4. Send off is 6–7 am. The flight is expected to return between 9 and 10:30 pm. A tent will be provided.

Health and safety measures related to Covid-19

Since 2008 and over 24 successful flights, the Freedom Honor Flight medical team has worked diligently to ensure the health and safety of participating veterans, many of whom are older and have significant health issues. Veterans’ health, safety and comfort continue to be of foremost importance. As such, all veterans, guardians and medical and flight crews are required to be fully vaccinated. Flight participants will be given a same-day wellness check overseen by flight physicians. KN95 facemasks will be supplied and worn by participants unless they are eating or drinking. Veterans and guardians who have personal concerns about these requirements can request to be assigned to later flights, which the organizers will respectfully accommodate.

Did you know, the reflection of the Korean War Veterans Memorial mural wall creates the image of 38 statues, symbolic of the 38th parallel and the 38 months of the war.

Fourteen years ago today, the US Air Force Memorial was unveiled. The three arcs mimic contrails of Air Force Thunderbirds as they peel back in a precision ‘bomb burst’ maneuver.
